Aquatics Assistant Instructor ($20.19 - $21.42):

The Successful Candidate will:

1. Support Instructor in running are fun, engaging, and inclusive swim lessons. Follow direction on how to utilize training and formations to ensure lessons are safe.
2. Work with instructors to focus on key participants to ensure their ongoing success is to Lifesaving Society’s “Must See” standards 
3. Use excellent customer service skills to resolve conflicts or concerns from program participants and the public, or refer to the appropriate staff.
4. Maintain current qualifications, attend regular trainings, update clinics and remain open to feedback about instructional programs.
5. Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Deck Attendant ($19.23 - $20.40):

1. Monitor swim participants for safe use of water slide and assists lifeguards in maintaining a safe aquatic environment by scanning, enforcing rules, admission standards, and completing regular facility safety checks to ensure compliance with public health regulations.

2. Follow direction from lifeguards in the event of an emergency first aid situation and act as support team in managing the public.

3. Use excellent customer service skills to resolve conflicts or concerns from program participants and the public, or refer to the appropriate staff.

4. Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental guidelines.

All:

1. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C award from Lifesaving Society, St. John’s Ambulance, Canadian Ski Patrol is required prior to date of hire.
2. Current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross award is required; Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard award would be an asset
3. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, certifying organizations, emergency service agencies, program participants, and staff.
4. Experience volunteering in an aquatic environment an asset.
5. Must be 14 years of age or older.
6. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.
7. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (or Declaration of Minor) satisfactory to the Town is required.
8. Availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Aquatics Assistant Instructor only:

1. Current Lifesaving Society Assistant Swim Instructor or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor award is required.

2. Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required.

Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.

Disclaimer: Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at candidates own cost.
